Flash Player Full Screen Shame
I am working on a flex project currently and we are tight in the area of screen real estate. We wanted to accommodate a bit lower resolution and it seemed like a good idea to take advantage of the new full screen mode offered in the latest flash player. I do a little digging and got it all working just fine. You would now be able to see all elements nicely in the lower resolution with zero scrolling.
Now for the catch. We begin using the app and going through things testing everything out only to find that we can’t type in any of the text fields. Eventually we narrow it down to full screen as the culprit. For once its not fonts :) I looked around a bit and find this on Adobes site:
Users cannot enter text in text input fields while in full-screen mode. All keyboard input and key-related ActionScript is disabled while in full-screen mode, with the exception of the keyboard shortcuts that take the viewer out of full-screen mode.
Really? WTF? I’d love to hear the details behind it as not being able to type makes it impossible for us and I’m sure many others to even consider using this cool feature. I sure hope this is something that will be changed in the near future, the client was very disappointed when we had to take it back out.
